Don’t overlook one brief comment that, so far, has passed unnoticed. Sarah Palin mentioned “the haberdasher” Harry Truman last night. Harry was a completely inexperienced VP who was not even “in the loop” on the nation’s WWII strategy and weapons (including the A-Bomb). When FDR died, Truman needed a crash course, and he rose to the responsibilities of office with grit and determination. Palin is inthe Truman mode. Obama is a spineless windbag of ambition who voted “present” 130 times because he is not man enough to commit to a tough decison until others make the choice for him. Obama is the proverbial “warrior who only comes to the field after the battle is over and then shoots the wounded.”

Can people, on both sides of ther issues just not wait to get the facts?

In the beauty queens first stint as a public official. Mayor of the tiny Alaskan town of Wasilla, population some 8000 souls. Madam Mayor decided to use tax money to build a fancy expensive sports complex, but instead of being honest and buying the land for the complex when it was offered to the town on the cheap.

She waited till developer Gary Lundgren bought it, then had the gall to seize the land from Lundgren through eminent domain. Of course after it was taken to court the folks of Wasilla ended up paying about $ 1.7 million for land it could have purchased for less than a tenth of that sum - the poor folks of Wasilla are still paying the price for that little shenanigan in higher taxes and service cutbacks.
A former beauty Queen praising God, guns and drilling for oil may excite the religious right and pack them into Senator McCain’s corner but I speculate Senator

What was Senator McCain thinking when he selected Sarah Palin? “Which country first” one might ask considering the radical political ties of Governor Palin’s husband Todd, the United States or the independent Republic of Alaska?
The GOP wants to talk about patriotism and character; I’d like the Governor of Alaska to clarify her position on loyalty to the constitution of the United States.

At what point do we begin to ask questions about the Governors judgment in addressing a group of neo-radicals who preach what amounts to sedition. McCain surrogates have set the bar high for Governor Palin’s acceptance speech. We are assured all of America will fall in love with Sarah Palin the hockey Mom and spunky outsider who single handedly took on the corrupt Alaskan republican power structure and has reformed it top to bottom

For those of us who live in the real world It becomes evident with every passing day, Senator McCain dropped the ball in the Palin vetting process and try as they might to redirect the topic to her skills as moose hunter and Mayor, I speculate the GOP for all the glitz and hype will leave the convention a party unified but saddled with a veep who’s views, behavior and actions raise serious questions with a great many undecided voters.

And how can a party that is turning out to be the Christian Conservative party, praise a man whose wealth comes from beer money (isn’t drinking shunned for most of them and I would think profitting from it should be) and praising that a 16 year girl is pregnant and getting married and she is to be praised???

I don’t recall republicans praising jamie lynn spears months ago when it came out that she was pregnant and getting married.

And know there is allegations of an affair that she had…more of her family values?

And for the posters that said they like that she is average, what are you thinking? I do not want a hockey mom as the VP, I want someone that has an understanding of the complex issues that she will face or at least knows what the duties of VP consist of (which she didn’t as of 2 1/2 weeks ago). My 11 year old knew that the VP presided over the Senate, and she didn’t…that horrifies me.

It seems very unpatriotic, and this election seems to be questioning people’s patriotism quite a bit.

* A writer observed: “We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty, sincerity, and dignity.” I know just the kind of people that writer had in mind when he praised Harry Truman.

I grew up with those people. They are the ones who do some of the hardest work in America … who grow our food, run our factories, and fight our wars. They love their country, in good times and bad, and they’re always proud of America. I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town.

* I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion — I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.

* My fellow citizens, the American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of “personal discovery.” This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn’t just need an organizer.

* Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems — as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all.

* Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown.
And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a “community organizer,” except that you have actual responsibilities.

* To confront the threat that Iran might seek to cut off nearly a fifth of world energy supplies … or that terrorists might strike again at the Abqaiq facility in Saudi Arabia … or that Venezuela might shut off its oil deliveries … we Americans need to produce more of our own oil and gas. And take it from a gal who knows the North Slope of Alaska: we’ve got lots of both.

* …there is much to like and admire about our opponent.

But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state Senate.

* In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.

* And though both Senator Obama and Senator Biden have been going on lately about how they are always, quote, “fighting for you,” let us face the matter squarely.

There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you … in places where winning means survival and defeat means death … and that man is John McCain.

* I might add that in small towns, we don’t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren’t listening. We tend to prefer candidates who don’t talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.

"You are Dead Wrong!"

Thank your for your remark and your opinion; everyone has an opinion about the war it seems. Although the "12 reasons post" was written quite a while ago, I still fully supoort the war and President
Bush, for the most part. I am surely in the minority. I can laugh along with the late night comedians who make fun of The President's speech impediment. He is not very charming nor suave, for sure. I think these have concealed a lot of his education, judgment, and intelligence. But he is not a simpleton either. I have seldom seen anyone who will stick to their guns, so to speak, even in the face of extreme unpopularity. I am sure that it would be easiest to cave in and just do what so many in the liberal press want him to do. But this president is strong with the kind of strength that a statsman needs in this troubled time.

I have never seen our nation so divided. The liberals (democrats) have, via the press, hammered away at President Bush during this time of election. They have changed the hearts of many to oppose the president. Just view any of the news channels and watch what they do. Any time a liberal is interviewed, and they are interviewed five to one to conservatives in terviewed, they will essentially ignore the question and recite the "talking points" of the democrats: they say, "four more years of the same" (which it clearly is not going to be with either candidate), then they move on to, "we need change" (who disagrees that SOMETHING needs the change--that's a safe stance), they talk about the need for health care (right-on, who doesn't agree with that. I am a disabled 'Nam era vet, remember us?)

But of all the talk every election since I can remember, "that" was the same promise. And guess who has made the most progress in that area? George Bush (I know first-hand that my numerous meds now don't cost as much). Healthcare will never be nationalized, and if I am wrong, God help us all. The VA medical system is an example of socialized medicine. They are so busy that they are overworked and underpaid and unhappy (the doctors, and staff).

My primary doctor there has literally, nearly killed me. on four separate occasions. I am now worse off, due to incorrect diagnosies and treatment, than when I first went there. I can use Medicare, but, and this should tell you something, no decent doctor or hospital will accept what they will pay for services on the outside. I am loosing the feeling in my limbs (just one of many problems). It is frightening. From research on the Internet, and asking other professionals on the outside, I know that I need a very delicate neck surgery to correct it. But it is very expensive. The VA docs tell me there is nothing they can do for me (not that I would even trust them to be able to do it). I will probably never live long enough to have the money to pay for the sugery myself. So if anyone should believe in "free medical services", it should be me. But I don't. Talk about more of the same.

Liberals believe in the "right to choose". It has been well-proven that unborn babies feel and can even learn while in the womb. Where are the babiies' rights to choose. The people who chose to make them already made their choices. These people just tune that out because they want to screw and live whomever, and however they choose. Why do you think it is that STD's only afflict those who screw around? Shouldn't that be a subtle hint of what God wants us to do? But they don't care because they don't really beleive in God. Not really. They say they do, but the God they believed in doesn't resemble the God that ANY world religion has believed in for thousands of years. You can't just make up a god and give him the attributes that you want him to have. He is what He Is. I'm not a religious fanatic but I'm not a communist either. Most liberals today ARE. It's not a bad theory, but it has been proven to NOT WORK. One day these folks WILL belive in God, and He won't be who they thought He was.

I'll bet you:

1) Don't have a strong or well defined set of religious beliefs. 2) Don't believe that abortion is wrong. 3) Believe that other people should take care of you (socialized medicine, handouts, welfare, social security--that the world owes you something) 4) Are not very well off fanancially. 5) Come from a family wherein the parents were divorced or never married (not your fault). 6) Sleep around if you can get away with it. 5) Belong to a union, if you DO have a good job. 6) Belong to a "minority". 7) Have a high-school education at best. 8) Have never served in the armed forces. 9)Hate "rich" people, or anyone who is not generally like you. 7) Are under 40, probably under 30 and so on. You fit the profile of who the liberals, including the media, cater to. You have been brain-washed.

Isn't it interesting that virtually all of the US Congress supported the President, but have since bailed out and got on the bandwagon of calling him evil and pretending they opposed the war. They are called politicians.

But this can't b e argued against: President Bush, and his war has kept us safe here at home. Fewer Americans have been killed in the war totally,than one year of those killed by drunken drivers, here safe at home. Fewer than those killed in previous terror attacks in the USA. And way fewer than Iraqi's who have died. And those who have died in our military, were volunteers who know what they were doing. Some people actually believe there are worse things to die for than in the service of humanity. They are called heroes.

I was once a liberal. I was a psuedo-hippy. I lived the sixties and seventies, prior to aids. Fortunately, I got a life and figured out what to believe in. Why don't you get a life too. It's not too late.

I doubt that you'll be back. But if you do come back, at least have twelve reasons or at least one or two for opposing the war. "You are dead wrong." is not a reason. You've got nothing. I am embarrassed, in your behalf, to even post your comment.

Your baby looks blissful sucking down the formula from his bottle. But maybe you should feel anxiety for two. Plastic baby bottles, sippy cups and pacifiers all contain a chemical called bisphenol A, or BPA, which a recent large-scale human study says can double the risk of heart disease, diabetes and liver problems in people with high concentrations in their urine. Other animal studies suggest BPA can also harm the brain development of infants and children…

All of us carry at least some bisphenol A in our bodies, a consequence of being exposed to a variety of plastics. The question is whether such amounts constitute a health risk. Better known as BPA, this component of polycarbonate – a tough kind of plastic – can leach from plastic containers like sports drink bottles, baby bottles, pacifiers, and microwave dishes into our food. That’s not exactly the marinade most cooks – or moms – are after.

A panel of 12 scientific advisors appointed by an arm of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has concluded that such leaching could pose some risk to the brains of fetuses, babies and children. The findings fall somewhere between those of the chemical industry – which claims that BPA poses no threat – and environmentalists who say that BPA harms health. A subsequent draft report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Toxicology Program supported the panel’s concerns about the health effects of BPA.

SILVER SPRING, Md. —
A Maryland state delegate who called for "DUI" license plates that would be issued to people convicted more than once of drunken driving has been charged with driving under the influence himself.
A Montgomery County police officer cited Herman Taylor Jr. after finding him sleeping with his SUV idling at a 7-Eleven on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring on May 1.
The officer saw Taylor pull into the parking lot, then rest his head on the back of his seat. The officer had to shake Taylor to wake him up, according to the arrest report. The officer also smelled alcohol.
