I have never been one to recommend reloads, although I have used them myself, mostly my own. But with general reloading caveats still in place, this place has a great reputation. They are located very close to me. There are minimum orders, so you may want to go in with others in your club or family in order to make shooting more affordable. I recommend shooting regularly. While practice with your actual gun and caliber is best, even if you shoot a less-expensive caliber, it will be of some value.
The most important thing is to create some basis of automatic-thinking, sometimes called muscle-memory, so that when you are in the "real thing", you can control your duress. The real thing can be a life or death situation or it can be a formal competition. BTW, serious league competition can actually generate the kind of stress that mimics combat--and is consequently a good form of preparation.
The absolute BEST practice for real-life-threat situations is an organized and conscious mock-scenario situation. These can be set up by yourself or with a group in competition. Several of the current shooting defensive shooting leagues offer this--often weekly or more.
