Your photographs may be as timeless as these. What does it take? Craft to the point of competence at least. Timing, and access. Ihave a saying wiht a story behind it, which I won't tell right now, but the saying is ,"To catch a lot of fish, bait a lot of hooks".
by this I mean, exposure, but no the usual kind photographers think of. I am not talking aobut a settin gon your camera, I am talkng about exposingyourself to situations conducive to a particular outcome as often as possible. It's like finding treasure. Yes, it IS possible that someone will drop a bag of jewels in your front door while you hide under the bed all the time. But youcan greatly enahnce the odds of finding jewels by going places where jewels are found and looking for them.
Ift his is too cryptic, you wouldn't get it anyway. Believe it or not this idea has never occured to some people.They will sit around and moan a groan and belly-ache. Woe is me. Life's not fair.
Right! It is not! Get over it.If your want to take great and astonishing photographs, go where great and astonishing things are happening or where astonishin people are.

Camcorder Popular With Surfers Looks to Ride Professional Market

Even as cellphones put video cameras into pockets everywhere, one company is seeing brisk sales of a rugged video camera that turns ordinary people into the stars of their own self-shot action movies.

GoPro’s trick: a collection of mounts that allow its inexpensive cameras to be attached to everything from the tips of surfboards to ski helmets. The cameras have also started winning converts among professional cameramen, who have used the gadgets to burrow into cobra dens and shoot the insides of shark’s mouths for television nature shows.

Now GoPro’s closely held parent company, Woodman Labs Inc., is receiving its first round of funding from outside investors, including Steamboat Ventures, a venture capital fund backed by Walt Disney Co. GoPro declined to disclose the size of the investment.

GoPro is part of a category of products known as pocket camcorders that is thriving despite the prevalence of video cameras inside devices like Apple Inc.’s iPhone. The simple-to-operate cameras are more portable than traditional camcorders but lack many of their bells-and-whistles, like powerful zoom lenses.

In 2009, sales of all pocket camcorders were just over $2 billion world-wide, growing 21% in unit sales to 13.6 million in 2010 from the prior year, according to research firm

'Restrepo' Director Is Killed in Libya - NYTimes.com

Tim Hetherington, a British photographer based in New York who was a director and producer of the film “Restrepo,” was killed in the besieged Libyan city of Misurata on Wednesday, our Times colleague C.J. Chivers reports. Three photographers were wounded in the same attack, and one of them, Chris Hondros of Getty Images, died.

The four had reached the city by sea from Benghazi, the rebel capital. “Early reports said they had been working together near the front lines when they were struck by a rocket-propelled grenade,” Mr. Chivers wrote.

During the making of “Restrepo,” Mr. Hetherington and his co-director Sebastian Junger spent 14 months with a platoon of United States soldiers in the Korangal Valley in Afghanistan in 2007 and 2008. A Times review of “Restrepo” can be read here.

Our colleagues on the Lens blog have a slide show of Mr. Hetherington’s work and one of images by Mr. Hondros. The pictures by Mr. Hondros were taken earlier Wednesday. Also, the photographers Guy Martin and Michael Christopher Brown were wounded in the attack.

Wherein the last gallery Iposted was funnyt stipid, this gallery is prettynice. Please not, as I have madethe point many times, PLACE covers a bunch of mistakes. We can all find trivial technical lackings in some if not all of these photogrpahs, but by merely being there to take these photographs allowed the photographers to make extraordinary images.
So, lay aside the negatives for a moment and don't critique. Maybe the photographer didn't have a haze filter, or maybe only a carboard camera. The point is that these most of these images are worthy of a second look--for one reason only. Place.
