“I was with a small group that met with the speaker back in — well, it was four years ago — and he expressed his regret,” Rev. Wildmon recalled.
“He confessed that yes, he did, he had made a mistake. He had done wrong. He had sinned. And he’s been doing that and has lived since that time with a life that points toward family and faithfulness.”
Everybody has faults, Rev. Wildmon said, adding, “I don’t think Jesus is running in this election. But I think [Gingrich] has had enough change in his personal life — and done enough study and research — to see that the family is the most important unit in our society. Without it, if it disintegrates, then there goes our country.”
Wildmon slammed Romney, based on his record as governor, claiming he had been "soft" on gay marriage and backed an Obamacare health program in his state.
“I think if you look at his record, he basically was real soft on Massachusetts’ homosexual marriage. That opened the doors for everybody else in the country,” Wildmon said. “To be honest with you, I just don’t feel good about him. I feel like that he’s Obama lite. I just don’t think that he can be trusted to really care about, and protect and defend the family and religious freedom that we have in this country.”

I find the logic or other basis for this endorsement to be shallow at several levels. First, it seems that the repentence for mistakes that the reverend applies so liberally to Gingrich is totally lacking when it comes to Romney.
Romney has been vetted as a very moral man who has NOT cheated on his wife. He is a Mormon in good standing personally; anyone who knows anythign abour Mormon beiefs knows that their beliefs are vehemently against homosexualilty AND abortion. Romney has NEVER been in favor of either of these practices.
Perhaps above any other singular belief system, Mormons have long held that the union of man and wife in marriage is a sacred institution and that the "family is the basic unit upon which all of civilization if based". The reverend almost sounds as if he has plaguraized from age-old mormon comercials regarding these issues.
Mormons state in their Articles of Faith: We believe in God The Eternal Father, in Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. They further acknowledge that Jesus is the only means whereby men can be saved, that Jesus atoned for the sins of the believers. I don't know how much clearer this can be.
Mormons claim to be Chistians. If they believe that believe and faith and trust in Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice as the only way to be redeamed of our sins, WHO IS THE REVEREND OR ANYONE ELSE TO DECIDE THAT THEY ARE NOT CHRISTIANS? ISN'T THAT DANGEROUSLY TAKING JUDGEMENT OUT OF THE HANDS OF JESUS CHRIST AND PRESUMPTEOUSLY CLAIMING POWERS THAT NO MAN HAS?
I appreciate Newt Gingrich for who and what he is. He is a very smart scholar and he has a lot of experience. But Newt Gingrich has a pretty liberal historical record. He has sctually been more moderate than has Romney. Both have made mistakes as have all people on earth.
It is the opinion of many Republican leaders sho have recentlyendorsed Mit Romney, that Romney is the candidate who stands the best chance of beating Obama. Plus, unlike Gingrich, he is not an Washington insider.
I have not yet decided whom I will vote for, but it will be the one I feel stands the best chance of winning against President Obama.
Romney has done a good job of explaining his stance on the negativesagainst him. Better than has Gingrich about his own baggage.
Romney has the experience to relate to the common man because of his own service in the Mormon Church. As a young man, he werved a twoyear mission among the poor commn people.
As a Mormon Bishop and Stake President, he delt with the rank and file problems of everday common people, helping them to solve their own personal and financial problems. He has hardly been isolated from common people.
Further, Romney has the kinds of private business experience that Gingrich is lacking. It just the knd of experience that is lakcing now in Washington.
Remember, Mit Romney ran for governor as a Republican in the most democratically-controlled state in the Union--right in Ted Kennedy's backyard. Do you think he doesn't know how to win against people like Obama? Give that some thought. Ted Kennedy's bunch.
So, I respectfully point out that the good reerend is misinformed and apparently biased against Romney because of his religion.
